My First Birchbox

A few months ago my friend Katie introduced me to Birchbox. Birchbox is a service that delivers deluxe samples of high end beauty products to your door once a month for $10. Katie had read about it on The Small Things and told me she wanted to try it.

After looking over the blog, and then Birchbox's website, I decided that I too NEEDED to try this. The idea of having new products to try every month for a reasonable price was intriguing to me. I just don't have the money to waste on full size products that may or may not work, and I tend to stick to my tried and true products because of this.

So, last month I signed up for Birchbox, and today I received my first box!

As you can see, everything is packaged nicely with pink paper and a black ribbon to hold some of the smaller items together.
A Closeup of Zoya's Megan Polish

  • Juicy Couture Perfume
  • Miracle Skin â„¢ Transformer Treat and Conceal
  • VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything: Eye Serum
  • Zoya Nail Polish in Megan
  • wichcraft Granola

I will try to review these products as I use them, but I'm super excited about the nail polish and the eye serum. I've wanted to try a Zoya polish, but I haven't come across any in stores. I also have been looking for a new eye serum. I completely forgot about the one in my makeup drawer and I didn't finish using it before it went bad. I don't use eye serum frequently, but sometimes your skin just needs the extra help! This small bottle will probably suit my needs for quite some time, if it works! And I'll be sure to post pics when I use the polish.

For some reason my camera gives all of my pictures an orangish tint. I'll have to figure this out... But I hope you enjoyed by first Birchbox post!

Note: The granola is described as "toasty" and it sort of tastes burnt. Not particularly enjoyable...

There was an incident...

Yesterday was shot day. Three pens, as expected, no big deal. Except one of my pens misfired. The needle didn't even touch the skin. I pressed down, counted to ten, pulled it away, and the Humira started spraying. I put my hand over the end to catch to fluid so that it didn't spray all over the carpet. According to the Humira rep with AbbVie this is a normal mechanical failure. I explained the incident, gave them some info from the package, and as soon as they confirm with my doctor a new pen will be on the way. I have extras in the fridge, so no lapse in dosing. Still, injecting is anxiety inducing enough without equipment failure. The other problem: I noticed two lumps in my right arm pit on Thursday morning. Around 9 AM it was the size of a ping pong ball. I sat in Sus' house all day while she cleaned, unable to help her because the building pain was just too much and movement would only make it worse. By dinner time it was roughly the size of a tennis ball, and more...

Clairol Hair Food and ELF Skincare

I pocked these up at Target because I had some Cartwheel coupons. After a few weeks of use I can say the shampoo is fantastic. It leaves your hair clean without weighing it down. Unfortunately the conditioner isn't heavy enough for damaged or color treated hair so I usually have to use a leave in conditioner spray after. The shampoo and conditioner together do work well to clarify if used intermittently between other shampoos. They also smell fantastic and I do use them whenever my hair feels heavy from product buildup.  The ELF skincare is great for the price point. I'm not sure if it's scented but if it is the smell isn't strong. I loved the serum and used it up quickly. The eye cream and face cream work well but it wasn't hydrating enough for me. It might work better for someone with combination or oily skin.  The ELF beauty blender is excellent. I've used it many times and I love it. It works incredibly well and is much cheaper than the n...

Humira, Life at 120MG

I took two pens on Thursday (6/29/17) and another one today (6/30/17) and I am EXHAUSTED. No idea if it's helping yet, but the shots seem to make me hungry. Reminder: I am on Humira for Crohn's Disease, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, psoriasis, and polymyalgia rheumatica.
